Servas East Asia 회장이신 일본의 니시야마 교수 부부가 19일 한국을 방문,
19일 저녁에 환영 파티(?)를 마치고 가덕도의 정부영님 호스트를 받아 첫 날을
보내고 20일(월요일) 범어사 관광에 동참하게 되었다.

범어사 입구의 ‘선찰 대본산’ ‘금정산 범어사’ 조계문 입구에서 만나 반갑게
인사를 나누었다. 니시야마 교수부부는 몇 년 전에 우리 집에서 하루 묵었다.
그러니까 4년만에 처음 만났다. 일흔 일곱의 고령이라 그때 보단 조금 늙어 보인다.

정 부영님의 유창한 영어로 가이드를 시작, 우선 범어사의 이름부터 설명 하신다.
동국여지승람에 의하면 동래현 북쪽 20리에 있는 금정산 산마루에는 금빛을 띤 우물이
항상 가득 차있으며 가뭄에도 마르지 않는다고 한다.
그 속에 금빛 나는 물고기가 오색 구름을 타고 하늘에서 내려와 놀았다고 하여
'금 샘'이라고 하였다. 하늘에서 내려온 금빛고기와 황금우물 그리고 산 이름을 따서
금정산 범어사라고 절 이름을 지었다.

Foundation History of Beomeosa
"DongGuk YeoJiSeungRam" records the origin of Beomeosa as follow.
At the top of Mt.GeumJeong located in 20 ri(a traditional unit of
measuring distance) north of DongRaeHyun, there is gold-colored well
that never dries even during drought.
In the well, gold-colored fish came down from the sky on five-cardinal-colored cloud and
played, so people called the well as GeumSaem. The temple was named after "gold spring"
"gold-colored fish from the heaven" and the name of the mountain GeumJeong.

뉴욕에서 찾아온 뉴욕시청 홍보관, 열심히 가이드 하시는 정 부영님, 그리고 니시야마 교수 부인 시즈코상
Beomeosa was built by the great priest UiSang in 678 during the reign of King MunMu of the Silla
dynasty, as one of ten HwaEom temples in Korea. It was established to realize the purpose of
HwaEom which pursues life full of happiness and generosity.
Along with HaeInsa and TongDosa, Beomeosa is one of the three largest temples in Young Nam
province, and home to Buddhist cultural assets and famous great priests.
Great masters including UiSang, WonHyo, PyoHun, NangBaek, MyungHak, GyeongHeo,
YongSeong, SeongWol, YongUn, and DongSan had studied and practiced here.
Master priest DongSan had led Buddhist Purification Movement and worked as driving force
for modern Buddhism in Korea.

Dae Woong Jeon (Buddha Hall) –Treasure No. 434
The hall enshrines Sakyamuni Buddha and the name of Dae Woong was originated from Lotus
Sutra (Beop Hwa Gyeong). Dae Woong is the virtuous name of the Buddha, meaning great
hero who renounced all worldly desiresand reached enlightenment.

Beomeosa Buddha Hall has JeHwaGalLa bodhisattvaMiReuk bodhisattvaon both sides.
JeHwaGalLa saint is the presence of the Buddha of the past and MiReuk is the presence of the
Buddha of the future.
Therefore, the templehas enshrined the Buddha of the past, present, and future to save people
from their agony in transcending the time. The hall was established in 1614 by Buddhist priest
MyoJeon during the Jo Seon Dynasty.

대웅전 바로 앞 정원에 심어 놓은 향나무(가이스까), 너무 오래 되어 미국 해병 머리처럼 가지치기를 했다.
사람도 늙어 부스럼이 붙으면 이렇게 잘라내어야 살아남는다. 몸 뿐만 아니라 마음의 부스러기도
내려 놓아야 함과 같은 이치리라…

산속에 지어진 사찰의 기와지붕은 우리 건축의 곡선미를 자랑한다.
나는 이런 지붕의 곡선을 바라볼 때마다 안옥한 엄마의 품이 연상된다.

금어선원 (金魚禪院)
범어사의 사중에서 전해 내려오는 기록에 따르면 범어사에 선원이 개설된 해는 1899년 겨울이다.
그해 성월 스님이 금강암에 금강선사(金剛禪社)를 개원하였던 것이다.
스님은 대한 광무 3년(1899) 11월에 금강암에서 임시 선회를 열고 선원 개설에 관한 일정을 논의한 후
12월에 선원을 개설했다.
당시의 발기인은 성월스님이었만 회중은 성월을 포함한 수옹혜윤(睡翁惠允)•월송금홍(月松錦洪)•
유운주연(乳雲周演)•휴진(休眞)•법능(法能)•봉성(奉性) 스님 등 7인이었다.
안거기한을 9순(旬)으로 정하고 참선을 시작했으며 이듬해인 1900년 2월 15일에 해제했다.
SeonChalDaeBonSan means a place where people can meditate and clear their mind.
Through meditation, all useless ideas can be vanished and people can look into their true
inner-self and realize their Buddhist mind.
When Buddhist priest SeongWol worked as the abbot of Beomeosa during the Greater
Korean Empire period, the priestdeclared Beomeosa as main temple practicing meditation
and invited great Buddhist priest GyeongHeo as the master teacher for Beomeosa Zen center.
Everyone has their own thought and mind. If we practice meditation enough, even silly
average person can be Buddha. There are three jewel monasteries. The Buddha jewel
monastery is Tongdosa, the Dharma jewel monastery is Haeinsa, and the Sangha jewel
monastery is Songgwangsa.
In that sense, Beomeosa can be the fourth Meditation(Seon) jewel monastery
where people can find the root of their arising thought and mind.

이 절에는 탬플 스테이 프로그램으로 일반인들이 더 가까이 불교에 대한 인식을
갖게 해 준다. 템플스테이는 사찰에서 수행자들의 일상과 수행의 일부를
경험하는 사찰문화체험 프로그램이다.
범어사 템플스테이는 을 위주로 하며, 은 수행자가
자기의 본래 면목인 '참나'를 찾아가는 과정이다.
고즈넉한 정취가 있는 산사로의 여행은 복잡한 세상사를 잊고 '나'와 세상의 풍경을 잠시 되돌아보는
소중한 경험이 될 것이다.
Temple stay is not only about Buddhism but a cultural-experience program to help you understand
Korea better, in addition to experiencing a Korean Buddhist monastic life.
You will achieve the kind of peace of mind that is so needed in this complicated and hectic
modern world through various programs such as Buddhist Service(Yebul), Meditation
(Chamseon), 108 bows, Tea Ceremony(Dahdoh) etc.
People of all religions are welcome to participate in the temple stay. Although some
of the practices may seem foreign, we encourage you to step outside of your comfort
zone for just a while and experience life from a different viewpoint.
We are happy that you are open-minded to such an experience. We hope you will have
countless pleasant memories from this short, personal journey.
Tea Ceremony (Dahdo)
Making and enjoying good tea is one of the practices of the Buddhist religion. Koreans
say that there are serveral ways to enjoy good tea. One should start off by enjoying
the sounds of water boiling and then relax with the soothing aroma of tea and seeing
its soft and subtle colors.
Lastly, one can feel the warmth of the tea radiation through the cup as they slowly savor
the taste. It is more than merely a drink ; the process is meaningful and solemn.

유명한 시인들이 큰 바위에 새겨놓은 한시 (漢詩)

산령각 앞에서 단체 사진,
마침 박 선옥님이 도착해서 함께 했다. 박 선옥님은 혼자 일본어를 공부하셔서 1급
자격증까지 획득하시고, 특히 시즈코상 에게는 더 없는 원군이 되어 주신다.
범어사 관광 끝나고 헤어질 때는 장시간 지하철 여행에 드시라고 음료수와 간식까지
챙겨 주시는 마음 씀씀이가 너무 고마웠다.

범어 본사 옆에 있는 대성암 이다.
고즈넉한 이곳에는 여승만 기거한다.

이곳 대성암의 건물도 꾀 오래된 목조건물이다.

이건 무슨 꽃일까?
고목 나무에 넝쿨처럼 감아 공생하는 붉은 색의 이 꽃이 너무 상스럽다.
이름을 몰라서 안타깝지만, 마치 무담바라처럼 고목나무에서 피는 상스러운 꽃이다.

범어사 관광을 마치고 1호선 지하철을 타고 하단에서 내린다.
정 부영님 부인께서 차를 몰고 마중을 나오셨다. 이 분의 소개로 용원에 있는
전라도 정식 집에서 만찬을 나눈다. 반찬 숫자와 요리 맛이 기막히다.
배불리 먹었다. 니시야마교수 내외분이 연신 맛있다고, 고마워 하신다.
가덕도 정 부영님 댁에 와서 싱싱하고 맛있는 수박을 나누어 먹는다.
시즈코 상은 정 선생 부인의 수박 자르는 솜씨에 탄복하고 집에 가서 연습하겠다고…

쑥이다. (wormwood, mugwort, Artemisia, moxa)
쑥은 봄철 나물로서 사람 몸에 너무나 좋은 식품이다.
히로시마 원폭 후 모든 식물, 생물들이 타 죽었는데 그 다음해 봄에 제일 먼저 솟아 오르는 게
쑥 이었다. 그만큼 질기고 모질다. 우리도 쑥 처럼 끈질기게 인연을 이어가기로 한다.
정 부영님의 가덕도 별장은 너무나 절경이다.
두 분의 손때와 땀이 만들어 낸 걸작품이고, 곳곳에 생명을 키워가시는 보람을 보는 듯하다.
또한, 밤에 바라보는 거가교의 조명은 인적이 드문 이 섬 산속 별장의 특별한 프레미엄 이다.
꼭 다시 한번 찾아 오겠다고 마음속으로 다짐하면서 인정 많은 이 부부와 니시야마 교수 부부의
전송을 받으며 가덕도를 떠난다.
