There will be a Youth Project as part of the Conference organised by ourselves in collaboration with Exco and the conference organisers. Anyone interested in helping with this, please let us know. There will be an opportunity to have discussions about the project at the European meeting in Poland this August when we hope to make some initial plans with young people present. However we are very keen to also involve as many young people as possible from outside of Europe. It is important to identify young people who want to come as soon as possible if we are to secure any funding towards their air fares. Some information has already been put in S.I. News. However, could you please circulate the information below to ensure we reach as many young peo ple as possible who are connected with Servas through being members of host families, or as travellers. If you know of any young person (aged 18 - 25) who may be interested, could you please let them have the information and ask them to contact me at: DAsher1949@aol.com. Updates will be available on the S.I. Website under 'Forthcoming Servas Events'. If you would like to make any comments or put forward ideas, please let us know. Best wishes Ann Greenhough David Asher WANTED: YOUNG PEOPLE (aged 18 - 25) To take part in the next International Servas Conference in Barcelona in July 2004. ?Meet other young people from around the world. ?Share interests, ideas and activities together. ?Get to know each other during a pre conference meeting for young people. ?Help the Conference organisers in the running of the Conference and visitors programme. ?Join in Conference sessions and contribute to the development of Servas as an organisation relevant to young people. You will need to: ?Be available in Spain from 14th July to 25th July 2004. ?Be a member of a Servas host family or able to become a Servas traveller. ?Have a working knowledge of English (the language used at the Conference) What would be involved? The aim of the project is to encourage young people's participation in Servas at a local and international level. At the pre-conference meeting there will be opportunities to take part in the final preparations for the conference, as well as to enjoy time together in Barcelona. During the conference itself, some young people will be able to assist in the organisation of the conference, e.g. helping with registration, computer work, translation and interpreting, support to delegates. There will be chance to develop new skills such as presenting ideas or leading discussions within an international group. Others will be able to offer support to the visitor's programme which runs alongside the more formal business of the conference, e.g. helping with interactive workshops involving music, singing, art and craft work, as well as with wide ranging discussions on international issues. If at all possible, we would like to see young members taking part from all Servas regions. Young people under the age of 18 will be able to join in if coming to the Conference with an adult. We hope to find some funding to help with individual expenses, but can give no guarantees at this stage. Let us know as soon as possible if you would like to be considered for any financial support that becomes available. We would also like to hear from anyone interested to join in running the Youth Project, or who feels they have some contribution to make to the programme. Some preliminary planning will take place during the European Meeting in Poland in August 2003.
